In the previous two installments GDI and Nod were covered and in this installment we'll explore Scrin, the new alien race. Although their advantages come late in the match-up, winning is not impossible. Taking the fight to your enemy while teching up and setting up a booming economy is key. The three tiberium fields provide plenty of income throughout the game, especially with Growth Accelerators and a limitless storage space for tiberium. Capturing both Tiberium Spikes is also extremely beneficial and made easy with the games only tier 1 garrison clearing unit the Buzzer.

However, Scrin's greatest advantage comes when teched up. Powerful units like Tripods, Devastators, and the awesome Planetary Assault Carrier can make short work of your enemy's forces in the wide open spaces of this map. The open space also works toward your advantage when making flanking and sneak attacks as well, especially with the Mastermind.

Although this guide is full of useful information, it does not plan for every situation that may arise. Remember that adapting this information with your own style will greatly help improve your game. Like the previous two installments, each of the three match-ups will be broken down.

Scrin vs. GDI

This is an interesting match up, quite possibly one of the most balanced match-ups past the early game. I've got quite a few build orders for this match up, but I think I'll stick to two, which are the most reliable. In my opinion, I like to use things like Disintegrator Rushes and such when I rematch people for a surprise.

After this far into the game, what is done next is very situational. From there, you can either go with Stormriders or you can go with the Technology Assembler. Go with two Gravity Stabilizers (Airfields) in case he is making Predator Tanks and does not have enough anti-air.

The whole idea is to go with Seeker spamming until you are able to build Devourer Tanks since they fair better against Predator Tanks. Make sure you have Buzzers with you to counter Rocketmen, since they can wreak havoc on Seekers. You want to keep harassing your opponent with Seekers to slow them down. Try taking out as many Harvesters as possible, yet try not to lose many Seekers. When he tries to attack, use the charged up Devourer Tanks and Buzzer Hives to counter your opponent's assault. Well placed Reactors (Power Plants) and such can help block opponent attacks and keep Buzzer Hives safe while they take out infantry.

Once you teched up to tier three, your forces that you can make are usually far superior. Go with a nice mix of Planetary Assault Carriers, Shock Troopers upgraded with Plasma Disc Launchers, Annihilator Tripods, and Devastator Warships. Make sure you grab both Plasma Disc and Forcefield upgrades.

Like the previous build order where you go from here is situational. Teching up is usually the next step, but building Stormriders can also wreak havoc on unprotected Predators and Harvesters. Remember that in both build orders you will need to build another Portal (Barracks) down at the Blue Tiberium expansion to capture his Tiberium Spike.

What should I build out of the buildings?

  • Portal (Barracks): Build Shock Troopers or Disintegrators to absorb shots and deal decent damage to armored units.

    Like previously said earlier in this section: Harass your opponent with Seekers, then camp at your base unless you have a big enough advantage or tries to kill the Tiberium Spikes. When you are battling elsewhere, try to attack Harvesters with your left over Seekers.

    My Opponent is Spamming a Whole Lot of Infantry, What Should I Do?

    Buzzer Hives and Devourer Tanks: Use the Devourer Tanks to deal with Predator Tanks and APCs. Once you are done with that, Buzzer Hives will clean up infantry rather well. Remember that placing Reactors (Power Plants) in front of the Buzzer Hives will keep them safe from fire while they can still go around and take out infantry. In the late game obviously Devastator Warships are the way to go. Remember also, when you see an opening where your opponent has no anti-infantry protection, to abuse the Buzzer Swarm support power.

    The Tiberium Spikes

    Always grab them as soon as possible. It is fairly easy with the second build order. You will have one of the bunkers already taken care of with the garrison (make sure it is on "Hold Fire" stance) and you can walk an Assimilator (Engineer) right in. If he manages to stop this, then just grab some Buzzers and clear his garrison.

    Try to make them as soon as you possibly can. Ideally this is when you are floating enough that building them won't make your cash flow hit zero. They are a huge advantage, especially over time.

  • Scrin vs. Nod

    This is usually a pretty entertaining match-up on this map that is known to almost always be action-packed. Nod usually tries to Shadow Team rush on this map; though sometimes will not since Scrin has the best counter. From there, they usually split between Attack Bike and Raider Buggy spam and Scorpion spam. Both tactics are meant for numbers, and to keep on your heels until they tech up.

Make sure you have Buzzers with you to counter Rocketmen, since they can wreak havoc on Seekers. You want to keep harassing your opponent with Seekers to slow them down. Try taking out as many Harvesters as possible, yet try not to lose many Seekers. This is easier than against GDI since they are stealth but have weaker armor. When your opponent tries to attack, use the charged up Devourer Tanks and Buzzer Hives to counter your opponent's assault (when it is more of a Scorpion Tank, Avatar, and Rocketmen mix). Well placed Reactors (Power Plants) and such can help block off opponent attacks and keep Buzzer Hives safe while they take out infantry.

    The way you win in the late game is by using the Statis Field support power on his Avatars to freeze them up for you to break through. You want to go and take out as much of his base as possibly, mainly Harvesters and key structures like ones that give queues (War Factories, Con Yards, Hand of Nods, etc...) and Power Plant so he can't function correctly. A good mix is key, so make sure to have some Seekers in their for anti-air and stealth detection, if he making infantry, Gunwalkers (especially Phase Fielded) are a great idea, plenty of Annihilator Tripods, and a nice mix of air units, such as Devastator Warships, Planetary Assault Carriers, and sometimes the speed, armor, and decent damage of the Stormrider is nice to have.

    The way you win in the late game is by using the Stasis Field support power on enemy Avatars to freeze them up for you to break through. You want to go and take out as much of his base as possible, mainly Harvesters and key structures like ones that give queues (War Factories, Con Yards, Hand of Nods, etc...) and Power Plant so he can't function correctly.

    A good mix is key, so make sure to have some Seekers in their for anti-air and stealth detection, if he making infantry, Gun Walkers (especially Phase Fielded) are a great idea, plenty of Tripods, and a nice mix of air units, such as Devastator Warships, Planetary Assault Carriers, and sometimes the speed, armor, and decent damage of the Stormrider is nice to have.

    What Should I Do in Case I Get Shadow Team Rushed?

    Well you have two choices:

    • Use the recommended strategy in the previous section with 6 or so Buzzers protecting your Explorer. The thing with this is that Shadow Team rushing is so common on this map that it usually is always worth it. However, if your opponent does not Shadow Team rush, you are going to be out about 1,200 bucks.

    There are two things that are critical in this match-up. You need to harass, and you need to protect. Sometimes when Attack Bike and Raider Buggy are spammed, the numbers are so great that you can't harass. That is okay if that happens; just make sure that you don't lose buildings or Harvesters. Once you reach Tripods, Attack Bike and Raider Buggy spam should be no problem. Hopefully you can harass his Harvesters with Seekers, though. Slowing their economy means the advantage is in your hands.

    My Opponent is Spamming a Whole Lot of Infantry, What Should I Do?

    Basically the same thing you did against GDI. Buzzer Hives and Devourer Tanks: Use the Devourer Tanks to deal with Scorpion Tanks and Raider Buggies. Remember, the range on the Devourer Tank is key to making this work. Once you are done with that, Buzzer Hives will clean up infantry rather well. Remember that placing Reactors (Power Plants) in front of the Buzzer Hives will keep them safe from fire while they can still go around and take out infantry. In the late game obviously Devastator Warships are the way to go. Remember also, when you see an opening where your opponent has no anti-infantry protection, to abuse The Swarm support power.

    The Tiberium Spikes

    Always grab them as soon as possible. It is fairly easy with the second build order. You will have one of the Bunkers already taken care of with the garrison (make sure it is on "Hold Fire" stance) and you can walk an Assimilator (Engineer) right in. If he manages to stop this, then just grab some Buzzers and clear his garrison.

    While my experience in this specific match-up is far less than the other match-ups, however I do believe this build order is a pretty good one to use. The early infantry usage in this build order is for:

    Alright, this build order has to be tweaked during the game. Scrin mirrors can go many different ways pending on what move each of you play. With this build order, an opponent who goes for a fast Warp Sphere build order is going to gain early Seekers, which can be a problem. If he has early Seekers, counter accordingly with Disintegrators. If he goes with something such as Devourer Tanks, Stormriders are going to probably be your best bet as a counter. The general idea is set-up now, just remember to adapt and counter.

    Also, another basic thing is that you want to build your more valuable buildings from your Drone Ship queue if at all possible. There is a far less chance that it will be destroyed compared to your Foundry.

    It's basically a slugfest with his units. If at all possible, use fodder units like Disintegrators and Buzzers while fighting. Disintegrators will do more damage, Buzzers can counter infantry, and both can attract fire sometimes. Also, try and sneak some Seekers past and harass his Harvesters.

You can try Buzzers, but Annihilator Tripods can take them out in one hit (which is good as fodder, but then you still have infantry to worry about).

    This is a game deciding unit that is essential in Scrin mirrors. Quite a bit of the time, capturing a Drone Ship will win the game for you. When your opponent doesn't have a Gravity Stabilizer, they are out of luck. With some micromanagement skills, you can teleport Assimilators or Annihilator Tripods into your opponent's base. This is good to do massive damage to your opponent while saving your Mind Control ability for when you need it.

    The Swarm support power is a great counter to the Mastermind, and you can run into problems when using the Mastermind yourself. It is a tad easier to get away from now since the patch made it so The Swarm cannot be placed over units.

    If someone is using pretty much only infantry, this should be an instant win for you. Obviously using Buzzer Hives and Buzzers like said in previous sections will help quite a bit. Also, spamming Gun Walkers for a little while will give you a perfect counter to any infantry Scrin can throw at you.
